Clean 9 Revisited- and complimentary Life Mapping sessions on offer!
I’ve just reread my blog, Forever Clean 9 Detox Experience, which I wrote back in July 2011. I said then that I was already thinking of repeating the detox after all the Xmas excesses, and guess what? I’ve been true to my word! Yesterday I completed my 2nd Clean 9 experience!
I don’t want to be repetitive but I did think it may be interesting to compare my experiences this time round with last summer- to see if I’d learnt any lessons!
Why did I choose to do it a 2nd time? Like many of us I over indulged over the festive period – my portion sizes probably increased, my snack intake (savoury and sweet) definitely increased, we were busy entertaining and being entertained – lovely – but extra calories inevitably crept in……. Additionally in the hectic run up to Xmas I know my caffeine intake rose considerably – at the time I was aware of this but thought “I’ll deal with that at some point in the future, but for now I want, I NEED my caffeine hit!” The downside – I was experiencing occasional palpitations which I felt sure were caffeine related.
So, festivities ended, children returned to school and I’d identified my detox “window of opportunity”. My preparations began! As I already take Forever Bee Pollen daily (fantastic for a natural energy boost, for reducing my hay fever symptoms last summer and a great all-round vitamin supplement!) I didn’t have to check my tolerance to it – but this is essential otherwise and one needs to build it up gradually prior to commencing the Clean 9. Once again I cut right back and then to zero my caffeine intake in the week prior to starting, similarly with sugary snacks – I think last June this was one of my problems – I had cut out the caffeine but not the processed sugar and my body rebelled on Day 2 with a throbbing head! I knew also that I hadn’t kept myself sufficiently hydrated last time round – this time, taking on board my learning from June, Day 2 was a much more upbeat experience – no thumping headache! I also carefully planned my diary – nothing too heavy for the first 2 days. If you want to maximise the results from your Clean 9 detox, it pays to prepare!
Days 1 and 2 are not a breeze, I’d be lying if I said they were! However my energy levels were great and I did not feel hungry – I just missed the habit of eating! This time I buddied up with my good friend Jane and this really helped – we talked daily to begin with, texted each other, compared notes and generally kept each other buoyed up – I’d strongly recommend teaming up with a friend who is detoxing at the same time. It helps keeps the end goal in sight!
As for June, on Day 3 it was a great treat to be able to eat a 600 cal meal – honestly, I ate a small portion of whatever the family were having for the evening meal (no puddings!) so whether I ate exactly 600 cals I don’t know. The point I’m making is that I didn’t weigh out my food but I fitted it in with my daily life – without adding extra hassle. Much better to do something like this in a slightly adjusted way than to not do it at all (if you keep on doing what you’ve always done you’ll keep on getting the same results - but of course you already know that!)
Again, by Day 4, I was well into the swing of the Clean 9 Programme, it just became the new routine. Energy levels remained high throughout whilst hunger was low – fantastic!
I love the Forever Lite Ultra Chocolate shake – I’m a chocolate girl through and through but if you’re not (can’t understand why!) there is also vanilla shake. At lunchtime I’d have it as a hot chocolate – even with skimmed milk it still has a satisfying “richness” to it. Having it for breakfast and lunch is no hardship.
The crucial question – how much weight did I lose this time?! Nearly 5lbs in total – not dissimilar to the last time round. I feel that that is the amount of weight my body naturally wanted to lose. I have clients and friends who have lost considerably more – 10 or 11lbs or even more, although I believe the “average” is around 7lbs. Again I lost 3/4″ off my hips – I feel much better as a result, both physically and mentally. It really has kicked started my mind and body into 2012! I’m focused and ready to tackle my new goals, both business wise and personally.
So, what now? Am I going to return to my sugary, caffeine laden ways? I believe not – why should I? I know I can control my intake, I’ve proved that to myself and I feel much better for it – my palpitations have stopped by the way! Will I allow myself caffeine, chocolate, cake etc? Absolutely, but the word is in moderation!
