Coaching FAQs

How do I go about choosing a coach when there are so many out there!

I agree that it can appear a little daunting! I would encourage you though to look at as many different websites as you can – you will naturally be drawn to some coaches more than others. Would you prefer a male or a female coach, or perhaps you have no preference. Check whether their areas of expertise are what you’re looking for; whether you are looking for face to face or telephone coaching and then give them a ring! Talking to your potential coach will help you decide whether you can establish rapport and have an affinity with them – crucial for a successful coaching relationship. Ask for Testimonials. Not surprisingly, different coaches suit different clients so use your gut instinct to help you decide whether that person is right for you to work with. If I am that right person, well, I’d be honoured!

How does Zest4Life Coaching differ from other coaches?

Zest4Life Coaching is made up of me, and only me! I assure you of always receiving “the personal and professional touch”. My many years of coaching and occupational therapy experience, combined with my academic credentials, and my personal ethos of “doing to others as I’d like to be done to” underpins the emphasis I place on empathetically supporting, encouraging and championing my clients throughout their coaching journey. You are unique and I will treat you uniquely.

What happens in a coaching session?

As stated above, every single client is unique and every client’s journey will be just as individual. Personal, tailored coaching from Zest4Life starts where you are and gets you to where you want to be. I won’t tell you what to do or how to do it. Instead, I’ll use proven coaching skills and tools to help you make positive progress.

The agenda and the pace are entirely up to you: this is your journey forward.

Where does coaching take place?

Most clients prefer to be coached over the phone. It helps you feel at ease and is easy to fit into your day – so you can enjoy all the many benefits without leaving the comfort of your home or office. It also means that we can be in direct contact wherever you are in the world!

Coaching sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly (whichever is best for you) and last around 50 minutes. Typically, clients have between 6 – 12 sessions, but again this depends on you.

Will I have any contact with you outwith my coaching sessions?

Whether you choose phone, Skype or face to face coaching, email contact between sessions is included in my fee. You are always welcome to contact me (telephone or email) if you need to talk urgently between sessions or to share your successes with me.

At no additional cost, I offer tailor made personal development work/exercises between sessions.

Tell me more about confidentiality

I adhere strictly to The Coaching Academy’s “Code of Ethics” (which I include in my Welcome Pack). All coaching notes are kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

How much will it cost

My rates are available on request. I encourage you, my potential clients, to consider Life Coaching as an investment in yourself and your future happiness and wellbeing. I am neither the cheapest nor the most expensive and I strive to always provide a high quality, individual, value for money coaching service.

Will you tell me what to do?

I will of course tell you how the coaching process works and together we will discuss and agree the terms of our coaching relationship to enable you to get the fullest benefit from your coaching sessions. However, I will not advise you as to what your agenda should be or tell you what you should or should not be doing. I believe that my clients are resourceful individuals, even if they don’t initially realise it! By helping you increase your awareness, clarity and focus, I will enable you to find the answers for yourself, in turn moving you towards your chosen goals.

How many sessions will I need?

Every client is unique as is their coaching journey. Some of my clients have come to me with very specific goals which have required only a handful of coaching sessions. Others have arrived with less well defined issues – general dissatisfaction with life, deep rooted issues like a lack of self confidence or self esteem, or perhaps not really knowing what is wrong but knowing that they have felt like this for a long time and something needs to change for the better. In such cases, 12 or more sessions are not unusual, although on average, clients may require 6-12 sessions. I often find that a client may have come for coaching on a certain aspect of their life and once that goal has been met, they move on to address something else. Coaching permeates one’s whole being!
If you are considering hiring me as your coach, we will discuss the above from the beginning.

What happens if I pay for sessions I’m not needing?

If you have block paid for coaching sessions and perhaps have 1 or 2 sessions remaining, you are able to use the remaining sessions as “top up sessions” within a 6 month period.
